Brain Eating Organism

September 29, 2007 Uncategorized | Comments (0) Tyler @ 7:15 am

Headache, Fever, Brain Eating Organism; it sounds like some thing out of science fiction.  Oh it is, it was mentioned in the X-Files TV series.

Oh good.

Then why did it recently kill six in Lake Havasu?

The killer is the Naegleria Fowleri; an ameba found in warm water and soil.  It enters the body through the nose and goes straight to the brain through small holes called the cribriform plate.

According to the Department of Immunology, Adelaide Children’s Hospital, South Australia, studies showed “results indicate that neutrophils are necessary for the expression of immunity to N. fowleri.”

Neutrophils are the most common type of white blood cells, the immunity police in the body.  But as we continue to fill our bodies with junk, processed, and unseasonal foods, we lower our immune system.  As we do this, more organisms that we might not have had a problem with before, will be able effect us in new and unconventional ways.

Colon monsters

September 20, 2007 Uncategorized | Comments (1) Tyler @ 8:36 pm

I haven’t written lately because of the amount I am doing with Holistic Herbal Health.  A lot goes into setting up a new office and part of that is updating the web-page.  In fact, that is one of the reasons why I wanted to blog a quick post.

Today was full of colon study and our colons are literally under attack.  And when I show you by what, you might just never come back to my blog.  I felt really “icky” with some of the pictures I found while researching.  The one that made me the most ill, is only in my memory and I hope never to experience it again.  Its really that disturbing.  But with out further boast, let me introduce you to the little colon monsters:

Parasites in Humans

Ascaris Lumbricoides (Roundworm) can measure up to 18 inches in length.  The female can produce 200,000 eggs per day.

The anterior end of the Ascaris Lumbricoides showing its three “lips”.

Anoylostoma Duodenale (Hookworm) uses teeth-like plates to attach itself to the surface of the intestinal tract.

Enterobius Vermicularis (Pinworm)

Schistome Fluke

Tapeworm (Beef Worm) Those consuming beef products have the highest risk of infection.

Greetings all. I hope you are enjoying as much as I, the sense that the season is beginning to change.  And what better time to meet, than a moment when we can feel change is in the air. In the 2008 legislative session, Representative Jeanne Labuda will once again be sponsoring legislation to regulate the Naturopathic profession in Colorado. I have personally met with some of you over the summer, and have exchanged emails with others of you over the past year. I have learned something from each of these interactions. Now it is time for others to be part of this dialogue.  The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, has generously offered to hold a meeting at their location with those of you who expressed concerns regarding HB 1192, the bill to regulate the Naturopathic Profession, that was introduced in the 2007 legislative session. This will be an opportunity to have your concerns heard by those who actually regulate all the licensed health care professions in the state of Colorado.  This will be a chance for those who draft the language of potential legislation, to be aware of the various issues that are a concern to you.  This may be a chance to figure something out that could work for many. The outcome of this meeting will be included in the Sunrise Review of Naturopathic Profession in Colorado.  Legislators will utilize the information in this Sunrise Review created by D.O.R.A. to help them with decisions they need to make in regard to any proposed legislation to regulate a profession. Your input is highly valued, and necessary to find a political compromise, that will be inclusive of the many needs of many different concerned parties. Please forward this email on to other practitioners you may think should be included in this discussion. Your RSVP’s will be appreciated. I will be attending, and do hope to see many of you on October 4th. Sincerely, Rena Bloom NDLegislative ChairColorado Association of Naturopathic Physicianswww.coanp.org303-337-4884   Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2007 11:12 AM

Subject: Meeting to discuss potential legislation I have sent you a meeting notice on Outlook inviting you to an upcoming meeting, however it has come to my attention that some of you may not be able to open the attachment.  I received your name from Rena Bloom, Legislative Chair, C.A.N.P. Here are the details: What:   Meeting to discuss potential legislationWhen:  Thursday, October 4, 2007Time:  1 – 2:30 pmLocation:  1560 Broadway, Conference Room 1380   (this is the old Denver Post Building) Other attendees:  Bruce Harrelson, Shelley Hitt -Program Director, Rose McCool, Director, Division of Registrations.  Please RSVP to the undersigned.  Thank you very much.   Cindy SuiterDirector’s OfficeDivision of Registrations303-894-7729

NAC

September 5, 2007 Uncategorized | Comments (0) Tyler @ 4:49 pm

I just read about a study from the Journal of Clinical Investigation, which studied the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC).  They are claiming to find NAC a molecule that tricks blood vessels in believing they are not getting enough oxygen.  This leads to a problem called pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).  This creates high blood pressure in the arteries that carry blood to the lungs.

Dr. Ben Gaston of the study says, “We found that an NAC product formed by red blood cells, know as a nitrosothiol, bypasses the normal regulation of oxygen sensing. It tells the arteries in the lung to ‘remodel’; they become narrow, increasing the blood pressure in the lungs and causing the right side of the heart to swell.”

I do not know the amounts used or any more about the case other than the studies were performed on mice.

The NAC nutrient is a precursor to the bodybuilding supplement glutathione.  Glutathione is an antioxidant, protein and used in maintenance of the immune system.

NAC is a derivative of the amino acid L-cysteine.  It is produced in the body in almost every cell, but its highest concentration is in the heart, muscle and the liver.  It can be found in eggs, meat, red peppers, garlic, onions, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, oats, milk, whey protein, and wheat germ.

Calm

One of my biggest downfalls is I let go of my mind.  I become mindless at times.  When I let go of control of my mind, there is no saying what is in control.

I have tried to practice being mindful of myself.  One way was to think about the words I use.  Rich and poor are good examples of misused words.  What do we think of when we hear rich or poor? Wealth and poverty? I believe that there is a great difference between rich and wealthy.

Anyone who has worked with people who do not own a lot will find those who are both rich and poor.  Richness of life is to enjoy and respect life.  Poor in spirit comes in many different forms, even million dollar homes.

I have read a great book that I recommend everyone own a copy of to refer back to.  “Peace is Every Step” by Thich Nhat Hanh.  He really focuses on the mindfulness that we need to survive in this world.

You can open the book on any given page and be inspired by what is suggested.  I feel so humbled while reading.  To be rich is so easy-you just need time to reflect and be in the moment.

Where are you right now? How is your breathing? Is it shallow? Where is your body in space?  Are you heavy, slumping in your chair? Are you sick of life? The first step is to know where you are-become aware.  Don’t change yet, start by knowing your body.  Get to know your self again.  Look at your feet, what are they up to?

Only when you know yourself, then can you change for the better…Japanese boats waves
