Benzene and you

June 16, 2010 Uncategorized | Comments (0) Tyler @ 4:17 pm

The oil from the gulf is not only spilling toxins into the water, but also the air. One of them is named benzene. But this doesn’t come just from the oil spill. (check your soda). I wanted to share some information about it. Here is a short video about the oil stuff. Remember, its in the air, so it will be dispersed throughout the earth. Granted, in much smaller doses the further away it gets. But something to think about.

Here is what the EPA has to say about benzene (in their 69 page report):

More about the Goji Berry found in Power Nurtiton’s Endurance Mix!

October 30, 2009 Uncategorized | Comments (0) Tyler @ 10:15 am

The Goji Berry is also known in Chinese Medicine as (among other names) Matrumony Vine Fruit. Dr. Henry Lu in his book Chinese Natural Cures states about the Matrumony Vine Fruit: “Lower the level of blood sugar, inhibit the growth of Bacteria. Notes: Matrimony vine fruits may be eaten as fruits or cooked as vegetables. It is commonly used as an herb for hypertension and diabetes. It is also a famous remedy for eye disease, because it acts on the liver, which is considered the organ responsible for the eyes.”

You deserve better and I am sorry.

I have had a wonderful spring this year! But wait you say, its almost fall? Yeah, I know. I have had a terrible time with the shipment and production of my cacao nibs. I now have great nibs that tasted so good with out being roasted! So the product will be better because of less processing. However, the en-robing process has taken far longer than I had anticipated.
I also have been touting the website www.mypowernutrition.com. And you guessed it, that has not been finished. I am not sure where the process is with its completeness.
The good news is that for the rest of the month of August, first time clients with the IonCleanse detox machine will be able to get one cleanse at 50% the regular rate (if you mention you saw it on my webpage that is). My email address is wellspringwellness@gmail.com. Please contact me there.
I ask your forgiveness for my products tardiness. I hope to have everything up to date soon.

Have the best week-Tyler

May 12, 2009 Uncategorized | Comments (0) Tyler @ 10:50 am

1 cup water
4 ice cubes
1/2 cup mixed berries (Blue, Black and Ras)
1.5 tablespoon ultimate green zone
2 tablespoon soy protein powder
.5 tablespoon agave.
2 tablespoon Choffy (cacao)

A message of cooperation for natural medicine

April 14, 2009 Uncategorized | Comments (1) Tyler @ 11:21 am

Greetings my friends,

I am writing you as a Naturopathic Doctor and a fellow Coloradan who shares
your dedication to Naturopathic Healing. I don’t know if  you are aware that
the bill for the regulation of Naturopathic Doctors has passed the House and
is now before a senate committee.
We are at a crucial point. As it has been every year our greatest opposition
comes not from conventional doctors (they actually endorse  the task force,
yessss!!) but from those persons who are in fact most closely
allied with us. I.e. persons like yourselves who are dedicated to, and many
of whom earn their living teaching and practicing the same principles that
you and I.do. I.e. nutritionists, naturopaths from
other schools, network marketers, and various lay practitioners.

These are good people and they are being misled. They have been told  that
if our bill is passed that it will make it unlawful for them to  continue
practicing as they presently do. They have also been told
that they and Coloradans in general will be deprived of their right to sell
and dispense herbs, supplements, homeopathic remedies etc. In short, that
the legalization of Naturopathic Doctors will be a step backward for freedom
of choice in Healthcare in Colorado.

Not one word of this is true. Not one word! In fact, as you know,
Naturopathic Doctors are and always have been champions of natural  health
care. The Naturopathic profession has pioneered the
advancement of homeopathy, herbal medicine, nutrition etc. Through  our
colleges, practices and our legal efforts we have taught, promoted and
defended natural Health care. Naturopathic Doctors founded
many of todays finest companies that manufacture supplements, herbs,
homeopathic remedies, and do laboratory testing and research. It would be
difficult to find a group who has done more than N.D.s to
foster the growth of natural Healthcare.

It seems absurd that Naturopathic Doctors would find  ourselves opposed by
our allies and friends. The reason for this is  that our brothers and
sisters are being misled. They have been told  outright lies about how our
bill will adversely effect their  practices, businesses and rights as
private citizens. Their outrage
is an expression of their commitment to protecting natural Health  care.
However their outrage is in response to false information.  There is no need
to go into who is propagating this misinformation.
There is a need to get the truth to our friends. I have spoken to  numerous
persons who had been misled by this “propaganda” and every one of them has
responded the same: “Thank you for informing me. I did not understand what
was actually occurring. How can I help you?”

My request to you is simple. Please forward to me any emails you  receive
opposing legalization of Naturopathic Medicine in Colorado.  If you know of
anyone who is opposed to our efforts please send me
their contact info. My intent is to contact them and arrange to have  an
honest dialogue in which we can listen to and speak to their  concerns. Like
everyone we have spoken to about this, I am confident
they will be most pleased to learn the truth.

It will be a tremendous achievement for Colorado to end our dark age laws
prohibiting the practice of Naturopathic Doctors. It will be a  benefit to
all our communities. It would be a tragedy if this law
fails not because of the expected opposition but from opposition  within our
own ranks. From the very people who, like us, are working  hard to grow and
protect our right to practice natural, non-harmful forms of health care.

Please take a moment right now to reflect if there is anyone you know who
you feel I should contact. If so please email me, and/or forward  this email
to them. I appreciate your strong alliance and assistance.

Repost: Elderly muscles benefit from amino acid supplements

Elderly muscles benefit from amino acid supplements

By Stephen Daniells

3/6/2008- Supplementing the diet of elderly people with the full set of essential amino acids can boost their lean body mass, strength and physical function, according to a new study.

The small study, with only 12 volunteers, challenges previous studies that showed no benefits, and highlights the potential benefits of amino acid supplements for this growing age group at risk of gradual decline in muscle mass, strength and function.

World population is expected to increase to 9.1bn by 2050 – up from 6.5bn in 2005; and 21 per cent of people will be over the age of 60 in 2050, compared to 10 per cent in 2000.

“Previous studies in elderly subjects have shown that provision of dietary supplements has not been effective in improving lean body mass. However, ingestion of nutritionally balanced supplements has often been found to reduce the caloric intake of the rest of the food eaten in the day by an amount equivalent to the calories supplied in the supplement,” explained the authors, led by Elisabet Borsheim from University of Texas Medical Branch.

“Therefore a dietary supplement in the elderly would be more appropriately considered as a dietary substitute.”

The study is published online ahead of print in the journal Clinical Nutrition.

Borsheim and co-workers recruited seven female and five male glucose-intolerant subjects with an average age of 67 and assigned them to receive a daily amino acid supplement (22 grams) between meals for 16 weeks. The supplement contained histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, valine, and arginine

“The composition of the mixture of essential amino acids (EAA) was designed to be maximally effective in stimulating muscle protein synthesis in the elderly,” explained the researchers.

After 12 weeks an increase in lean body mass (LBM) of 1.14 kg was recorded, while this decreased slightly to 0.6 kg after 16 weeks, compared to LBM measured at the start of the study (baseline).

Moreover, strength in the legs increased by an average of 22 per cent after 16 weeks, from a baseline value of 127.5 kg. Borsheim also notes an improvement in measures of walking speed, including the usual gait speed, timed 5-step test, and timed floor-transfer test.

“Generally, inclusion of a placebo group is preferred. However, we assumed that no improvement in lean body mass, muscle strength and physical function would have occurred over 16 weeks without intervention. Thus, the individual pre-intervention data were used as control,” stated the researchers.

“In summary, the results of the present study showed improvements of lean body mass, muscle strength and physical function in response to supplementation of the diet with EAA plus arginine in glucose intolerant elderly subjects,” they added.

“We propose that over a more prolonged time, exercise will amplify the beneficial effects of EAA supplementation on lean body mass, strength, and muscle function in both healthy and insulin-resistant elderly. This remains to be studied,” they concluded.

The other researchers were affiliated with Shriners Hospitals for Children (Texas) and Ajinomoto’s AminoScience Laboratories.

The study was funded by grants from the National Space Biological Research Institute (NSBRI), and Shriners, while Ajinomoto provided the amino acids.

State of the market

The latest estimate from Frost and Sullivan, a consultancy, valued the European amino acids market at US$1357.7m (€1063.8m) in 2005. The consultancy expects it to grow to around $1944.3m (€1523.4m) by 2012.

The world’s two leading amino acid suppliers are Kyowa Hakko and Ajinomoto.

Video games and boys

February 28, 2008 Uncategorized | Comments (0) Tyler @ 9:30 pm

I have been reading this book that I am very excited about.  I can’t seam to put it down once I start reading.  I missed my train stop today because I was so enamored by the teachings.  I am going to share a couple of paragraphs because I think everyone should read this book, and we need to rethink our lifestyles.  We are losing a lot of young men because of these factors Dr. Sax has wrote about and it is time we stand for the future.“New research suggests that video games may also affect the brain in ways that compromise motivation. The nucleus accumbens operates in balance with another area of the brain, the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). The nucleus accumbens is responsible for channeling drive and motivation, and gives the drive a rewarding character. The DLPFC provides a target and a contest drive. Both of these areas of the brain need to be working properly in order for a person to be motivated, and working toward a real-world goal.

A recent brain imaging study of boys between the ages of seven and fourteen years found that playing video games puts this system seriously out of kilter. It seems to shut off blood flow to the DLPFC. IN other words, playing these games engorges the nucleus accumbens with blood, while diverting blood away from the balancing area of the brain. The net result is that playing video games gives boys the reward associated with achieving a great objective, but without any connection to the real world, without any sense of a need to contextualize the story.

In other words, video games may affect the brain in children in much the same way that medications like Ritalin and Adderall and Concerta do. Curiously, this point is not disputed even by the most ardent advocates of video games. In Everything Bad Is Good for You, Steven Johnson noted that research on video games suggests that these games stimulate “a part of the brain called the nucleus accumbens” in much the same way the crack cocaine affects the same area.”This is from the book “boys adrift: The Five Factors Driving the Growing Epidemic of Unmotivated Boys and Underachieving Young Men.” by Leonard Sax. M.D., PhD.
