Why you should drink Zrii

January 7, 2008 Uncategorized | Comments (2) Tyler @ 9:45 am

ZriiI have been looking into a little fruit from India called Amalaki, for several months now, and I can say with so much excitement that Wellspring Wellness and Southwest Family Chiropractic are excited to offer this amazing little fruit in the new drink, Zrii!

Zrii can be a big factor in creating better health. It is the perfect marriage of natural resources, the wisdom of ancient Ayurveda, and the knowledge of state-of-the-art Western medical Science.

Here are seven of its benefits:

1. Amalaki, the great rejuvenator. Central to Zrii is a small fruit that grows at the base of the pristine Himalayas in northern India. Its nutritional profile truly places it in a class of its own—which means it can be an extraordinary source for you to find rejuvenation, vitality, and energy.

2. A formulation that takes nutrition to the next level. Mixed only with fruit juices, amalaki would be a top nutritional drink. But that wasn’t enough to ensure that you received the highest level of nutrition possible, so we created a synergistic blend of herbs and fruits to completely unlock the potency of amalaki.

3. Preservative-free. Zrii uses the world’s purest whole-food source of amalaki, all grown at the foot of the Himalayas, surrounded by the cleanest air and water on the planet—which means no harmful artificial chemicals or contaminants.

4. Wildcrafted in the Himalayas Our amalaki is wildcrafted, a harvesting technique where the fruit is taken from trees as it is naturally found in nature, hand-picked according to ancient techniques.

5. Endorsed by the Chopra Center. Zrii is proudly endorsed by the Chopra Center for Wellbeing, founded by world-famous Dr. Deepak Chopra and neurologist Dr. David Simon—the first third-party provider the Chopra Center has ever endorsed.

6. A vibrant taste. In Ayurvedic practice, the ability of a food or drink to “enliven the tongue” is a hallmark of its healing capabilities. And as those who’ve tried it will tell you, Zrii most assuredly enlivens the tongue.

7. The wisdom of Ayurveda. The formulation for Zrii is built on 5,000 years of Ayurvedic wisdom, which calls for multiple ingredients working together synergistically to maximize nutritional potency.

Zrii is endorsed by the Chopra Center for Wellbeing, a world-renowned health and wellness center recognized as the world’s premier authority on integrating the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda into modern daily life.

Deepak Chopra is acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest leaders in the field of mind-body medicine. He is a prolific author of over 50 books, as well as more than 100 audio, video, and CDROM titles that have been translated into 35 languages with over 30 million copies sold worldwide.

In addition to his role at the Chopra Center, Deepak Chopra is a founding director and President of the Alliance for a New Humanity, a non-profit group committed to creating a critical mass of consciousness in the world for social justice, economic freedom, ecological balance and conflict resolution.

Make a Resolution!

Improve City LimitsI once read an informal study where one hundred and fifty young adults were asked what three things they thought would make them more happy and successful during the new year. 98% included a resolution to increase their level of spirituality (this could include meditations, becoming at one with ones self and/or the universe, it might also include organized religion), two out of three wanted to improve their social skills and half wanted to increase their level of physical fitness (including not only exercise, but nutrition also), and half wanted to grow intellectually.

So those of us who are still wanting to change and create some resolutions and/or goals should start with these areas. This is not meant to be easy, but requires effort. It also includes a technique called sati or mindfulness. If unwholesome thoughts should start to enter the mind – thoughts of ill-will, for example – we can turn our attention away from them and not let them intrude.

Remember that if a goal or resolution fails, each day is another new start. We can start new behaviors at any time, we can set goals on any day. So set your goals, and stick to them. If you slip or fall-get back up and try again!

I hope that we can all be mindful when it comes to making our new year. That we can increase in the areas mentioned with a mind that is ready to follow through with out challenges.

Happy New Year to all!

Ionizing irradiation our supplements

December 18, 2007 Uncategorized | Comments (0) Tyler @ 1:47 pm

Phot by Alex Segre Supplements photo by Alex Segre The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) has sent a letter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requesting that they put a stop to a petition that would give clereance to ionizing irradiation on dietary supplements in the United States.  The letter includes these statements from the AHPA:

  • “…proper handling of these ingredients under current good manufacturing practice is usually sufficient to ensure that dietary supplements are not subject to microbial contamination that presents any risk to the health of consumers of these products…,” (2)
  • “the use of ionizing irradiation on herbal dietary ingredients will mask one of the factors that is currently relevant to the determination of ingredient quality.”  (2)
  • And if the petition is granted, “the United States will become the dumping ground for poor quality herbal ingredients from around the world, since irradiation of herbal ingredients is not permitted in many countries.” (2)

Currently, the FDA allows ionizing irradiation to be used on foods.  “The effect of ionizing radiation on living matter is characterized by cellular destruction stemming from the disruption of the genetic material. That is, the radiation-induced cleavage of chemical bonds in the cell’s DNA results in the inability of the cell to reproduce. On the organism level, the cellular inability to reproduce results in death of the organism. The breaking of chemical bonds described above involves the formation of stable radiolytic products from the reactive ions or free radicals which are formed when  molecules absorb ionizing radiation. These radiolytic species, including glucose, formic acid, and carbon dioxide, are generally the same as those that are formed when food is treated by heat (that is, cooked). In fact in over 30 years of intensive investigation, no radiolytic products specifically unique to irradiated foods have been identified.” (1)

This shows that we would be killing the supplements, just as we do with plant based foods.

People-Positive and Negitive

December 5, 2007 Uncategorized | Comments (0) Tyler @ 4:51 pm

Posted by siyublog Posted by siyublog Nothing can burn burn a person out more than negitive energy being thrown at you from those around you.  Although we can’t always stay away from those who are negitive, we can draw our self towards those who are positive.  Here is a list of the two types of folks from http://www.beliefnet.com/story/176/story_17677_1.html?WT.mc_id=NL54

SIGNS OF POSITIVE ENERGY IN PEOPLE
+ They exude an inviting sense of heart, compassion, and support.
+ You intuitively feel safe, relaxed, wanting to get closer.
+ They emanate a peaceful glow.
+ You feel better around them. Your energy and optimism increase.

SIGNS OF NEGATIVE ENERGY IN PEOPLE
+ You experience a sense of being demeaned, constricted, or attacked
+ You intuitively feel unsafe, tense, or on guard.
+ You sense prickly, off-putting vibes. You can’t wait to get away from them.
+ Your energy starts to fizzle. You may feel beleaguered or ill.

Remeber that all of us have good and bad days.  Sometimes we need to be picked up and some days we need the picking up.  Just remember that if you are going to choose a side, it is best to go positive.  Work on your personal out look and if you need to, get far away from those who are negitive in your life.  As you practice positivity, most likely those who drag you down will leave on their own, or you will bring them with you.  Change for the better is good.

12 States Sue EPA for Data on Toxins

Nov 28, 2007 (11:04a CST)
By MICHAEL GORMLEY  (Associated Press Writer)

ALBANY, N.Y. -  Twelve states sued the Bush administration on Wednesday to force greater disclosure of data on toxic chemicals that companies store, use and release into the environment.

The state officials oppose new federal Environmental Protection Agency rules that allow thousands of companies to limit the information they disclose to the public about toxic chemicals, according to New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the lead attorney general in the civil lawsuit.

The EPA this year rolled back a regulation on the Toxics Release Inventory law signed by President Ronald Reagan after the deadly Bhopal toxic chemical catastrophe in India in 1984, according to the states involved in the lawsuit. That law required companies to provide a lengthy, detailed report whenever they store or emit 500 pounds of specific toxins.

The new rule adopted this year requires that lengthy accounting only for companies storing or releasing 5,000 pounds of toxins or more. Companies storing or releasing 500 to 4,999 pounds of toxins would have to file an abbreviated form, said Katherine Kennedy, New York’s special deputy attorney general for environmental protection.

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in New York City seeks to invalidate the EPA’s revised regulations.

“The EPA’s new regulations rob New Yorkers – and people across the country – of their right to know about toxic dangers in their own backyards,” said Cuomo. “Along with eleven other states throughout the nation, we will restore the public’s right to information about chemical hazards, despite the Bush administration’s best attempts to hide it.”

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said the EPA’s action cripples a 20-year program that required companies to report the amount of lead, mercury and other toxins they released.

“Polluters can release 10 times more toxins like lead and mercury without telling anyone,” he said.

An EPA spokesman had no immediate comment.

The other states suing the EPA are Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.

Bananas

November 15, 2007 Uncategorized | Comments (0) Tyler @ 9:49 am

From the guys at Reference.com:

Bunch of Bananas

Bananas don’t grow naturally in the wild. We invented them. Thousands of years ago, wild bananas were like big bean pods filled with seeds. Scientists learned how to breed pulpy seedless bananas. Only sweet bananas are eaten raw; other bananas are picked green and made into food by cooking. More sweet bananas are eaten each day in the U.S. than any other fruit. Those tiny edible black things are indeed the seeds of the banana.

Mereck HIV blunder

Warning Is Sent to AIDS Vaccine Volunteers
S. Africans Among Recipients Who May Be at Higher Risk of Contracting Virus

By Craig Timberg
Washington Post Foreign Service
Thursday, October 25, 2007; A20

JOHANNESBURG, Oct. 24 — South African AIDS researchers have begun warning hundreds of volunteers that a highly touted experimental vaccine they received in recent months might make them more, not less, likely to contract HIV in the midst of one of the world’s most rampant epidemics.

The move stems from the discovery last month that an AIDS vaccine developed by Merck & Co. might have led to more infections than it averted among study subjects in the United States and other countries. Among those who received at least two doses of the vaccine, 19 contracted HIV compared with 11 of those given placebos.

Researchers shut down the trial on the grounds that the vaccine was proving ineffective, but the surge in infection among vaccinated volunteers prompted intense scientific debate and anxiety among researchers. The failure of the Merck vaccine is the latest in a series of disappointing results for research projects aimed at curbing AIDS.

“This is my worst nightmare,” said Glenda Gray, the lead South Africa investigator for the vaccine study. “I haven’t slept for days. I have a headache. I’m ready to resign from trials for the rest of my life.”

Researchers in Soweto, Cape Town, Durban and two other sites began contacting South Africa’s 801 trial participants on Tuesday, mainly by cellphone text message. The goal is to tell each one individually whether they had received a placebo or the vaccine, a process called “unblinding” the trial. Researchers are telling the roughly half who received the vaccine that it might have increased their risk of contracting HIV.

“It’s quite shocking,” said Nelly Nonoise, 26, who had received three injections of the vaccine in her left shoulder.

She added, “I probably wouldn’t have joined the study knowing there’s a risk.”

Another participant, Nonhlanhla Nqakala, 22, said she thought the text message urging her to visit the vaccine test site meant she had tested positive for HIV. Her brother and a close friend had the disease and died, she said.

Nqakala said she was relieved when a doctor explained that she was not infected, but the news of a possible problem with the vaccine — she had received three doses, not placebos — left her distressed. “I thought the trial would help us find a cure for HIV,” she said.

Merck developed the vaccine in conjunction with the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and until September’s announcement, researchers worldwide considered it the most promising candidate yet in a multibillion-dollar quest for an AIDS vaccine dating to the 1980s.

Scientists crafted the vaccine by genetically altering a common virus to include elements of HIV. They hoped that it would trigger an immune response that would make recipients less likely to contract HIV, or at least delay the onset of full-blown AIDS.

The vaccine could not have caused infection, researchers say, but it could have caused immunological changes that made it easier for the virus to take hold during a later exposure.

The Merck vaccine trials took place in 15 cities in the United States, including Boston, Los Angeles and New York, and three in Canada. There also were sites in Peru, Brazil, Australia, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Those trials began in December 2004 and included 3,000 participants, mostly gay men.

In South Africa — where an estimated 5.5 million people are infected with HIV, more than in any other country — the study used the same vaccine but was administered separately. The trial here started later, with the first injections this year, and had its own ethics oversight board. Most of the subjects were heterosexual.

The ethics oversight board in the United States, which monitored the trial everywhere but in South Africa, has not decided whether to tell participants if they received the placebo or the vaccine, said Mark Feinberg, vice president for medical affairs and policy for Merck.

Continuing research could be compromised, he said, if participants were told immediately whether they received the placebo or the vaccine. Vaccine researchers are scheduled to meet in Seattle on Nov. 7.

“Given the complexity of the issue, we feel the best conclusions will be reached when all the data are analyzed in their entirety,” Feinberg said from Atlanta, where he was traveling.

He added that individual participants who want to know whether they received the vaccine will be told. Researchers also are counseling all study participants that the vaccine may have increased HIV risk for those who received it.

Other AIDS studies also have had unexpected results. Trials of two vaginal microbicide gels to prevent HIV led to more infections among those using the products instead of placebos. A massive study in Zimbabwe of the ability of HIV counseling and testing to prevent the spread of the epidemic found more infections among those with expanded access to testing.
